Help give Bowda a home of its own

Bowda is free to use, has no adverts and doesn't track you. It's run by volunteers, and nobody is paid for their time. It does cost a little to keep online, though: about £75 a year.

Where Bowda lives right now

At the moment the whole site runs on an old computer in Ed's house, on a spare corner of his personal website. It works, but when the power or the internet drops at home, the guide goes down with it.

It would be nice to give Bowda its own space: a small, proper server that stays on, and its own address, bowda.rocks.

Bowda's current hosting setup. Well, nearly: it's really an old computer, but it isn't much more glamorous than this.

What £75 a year pays for

A small server to run the site
A rented computer in a data centre that stays switched on, has a fast connection and is backed up automatically every day.
about £55
The bowda.rocks address
Bowda's own web address, so it no longer has to borrow a corner of someone's personal website.
about £13
Spare copies and a little headroom
A second copy of the photos and problem data kept somewhere else, plus a bit spare in case the maps or photos outgrow their free allowances.
about £7
Total per year
£75

That works out at about £6 a month, or nineteen £4 coffees for the whole year. Every penny goes on running costs, and anything left over goes towards the following year.

Other ways to help

Money isn't the only way to help. Photos, new problems and corrections make the guide better for everyone, and you can contribute any time. Telling your climbing friends about Bowda helps too.
